My Career
In the world we in live today physicians and surgeons are needed for everyday life. I want to be a physician, but to have the knowledge of a surgeon as well. If there were to every be an emergency situation where surgery was needed. It has always been a dream of mine to help people and pursue this career path. I want to be able to help, to heal the wounded.
Physicians examine the patients. They also take medical histories and prescribe medication. There are two types of physicians. I want to be an M.D. (Medical Doctor). The other type is a D. O. Both physicians use the same methods of treatment. Prescribing medication and surgery. D.O.’s have other things involved though. Some of the things physicians and surgeons usually do are, review test results to identify abnormal findings, recommend and design a plan of treatment, and help patients take care of their health.
Many physicians work in private offices, usually accompanied by a small staff of nurses and administrative personnel. Increasingly physicians are working in groups practices though. This setting gives doctors backup coverage, and helps when coordinating care for patients. It does give them less independence though. Surgeons usually work in sterile environments though. As of 2010 physicians and surgeons held about 691,000 jobs.
Both physicians and surgeons need a lot of schooling and have many training requirements. Almost every physicians need to complete at least 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and around 3-8 years in an internship. Every student must complete undergraduate work in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and English. They also need to take courses in humanities and social sciences. Medical schools are very competitive though. It takes a lot to get accepted.
There will always be room for more improvement. Getting more knowledge. Become a surgeon. Own my own practice. The possibilities are endless. Even though there will always be room for improvement becoming a physician in its self is quite hard.
The wage for physicians and surgeons for a year is equal to and exceeds $166,000. The earnings for a physician and surgeons vary based on the number of years in practice, geographic, geographic region of practice, and so forth. The pay depends on a lot of things. With that being said doctors still earn a fairly large amount of money.
The employment of physicians and surgeons is expected to grown through 2010-2020 by 24%. Which is faster than any other occupation. The population is expected to drive the overall growth in the demand for physicians’ services.
The need for doctors will never reduce. Someone in the world will always need help and healing. This is the future I want to become. This is my plan for life, my career. I plan to complete my goals to become a physician with knowledge of a physician.
